Where will my session take place?
Your session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music playing promotes relaxation.
Must I be completely undressed?
No. Most massage and body techniques are traditionally performed unclothed; however it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. We maintain proper draping at all times to ensure your safety and comfort. Single use disposable spa garments are available upon request, or if required by treatment.
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
No. Practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table and cover yourself with a clean sheet and blanket. We’ll ask you to let us know when you’re ready and we will always knock and announce we’re entering.
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the specific area being worked on will be exposed.
What parts of my body will be worked on?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, face neck and shoulders.
What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
All our modalities are performed gently. A relaxing Holistic Massage uses Swedish Massage techniques as a baseline. Beginning with long, flowing strokes calms your nervous system and relaxes exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes more relaxed, pressure is gradually increased to relax specific areas and relieve muscular tension. Organic Jojoba or Organic Coconut Oil is applied to allow massage over muscles without causing excessive friction to skin.
The oil helps hydrate, nourish and moisturize your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting and is relaxes.
Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage therapy and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, application of varied pressure to specific points, posture and movement re-education. We‘ll discuss methods most appropriate for your custom session.
What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to your session, feel free to ask questions about techniques or your session. Your practitioner will explain what to expect during all elements of the session before treatment begins. During session make yourself comfortable. Practitioner will gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout session (Such as gently lifting your arm). Many people soften their gaze or prefer to close their eyes and completely relax, communicating occasionally to request more or less pressure, bolster pillows, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.
How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed and experience instant relief from aches and pains. Some notice freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After initial periods of feeling slowed down, people often observe increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity lasting for days. Since toxins are released from soft tissues during most massage and bodywork, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your treatment.
What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being. Some bodywork specifically improves appearance of skin and may aid more deeply in detoxification or function of body systems depending upon the modality.
