Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a unique modality affecting the Lymphatic System using gentle skin stretching techniques differing from Massage Therapy.

Lymphatic system consists of delicate vessels and lymph nodes just below the skin as well as deeper structures including in organs and glands. MLD consists of  light touch in various circular and scooping motions creating a soft suction effect pumping lymph fluid through vessels to regional lymph nodes. Lymph nodes filter lymph fluid picked up in vessels containing excess blood proteins, fatty acids, bacteria, cell debris, fungi, viruses, excess water (edema), toxins and other harmful substances to be eliminated. Lymph is cleaned and returned back into the venous system. Immune defense cells located in lymph nodes stimulate our immune system, antigens (bacteria) are broken down similar to the function of our liver. A healthy lymphatic system is essential for vitality and health. The Lymphatic System is innervated by the nervous system making it deeply relaxing and highly effective for pain relief and reducing swelling including from injuries, as well as pre/post surgical. Lymphatic face sequence improves the appearance and tone of the skin, removes dark circles and puffiness and is sometimes referred to as a non-surgical face lift . Lymphatic facial sequence is a beauty treatment in itself. MLD is highly beneficial in individuals with a healthy lymphatic system. For those with specific medical conditions we may not perform MLD on specific areas and in some more complex conditions MLD may not be performed. We will always conduct a thorough health history to determine the most appropriate session design and delivering a nurturing modality that best suits you. For individuals with Lymphedema, MLD is an important component of Decongestive Therapy.
